Gynecology A major part of health care for women of all ages is regular gynecological examination and quick treatment of any problems dealing with the reproductive system. This includes areas of the pelvic organs, breasts, hormone and endocrine glands. Gynecological care of females is available for newborn female infants, pre- and post-adolescent girls, and extends to post-menopausal women.
A regular gynecological check-up consists of completion of a medical history; visual check of eyes, ears, nose, throat, and skin; measurements of height, weight and blood pressure; a stethoscopic check of heart and lungs; a breast exam; blood test and urinalysis; PAP smear and inspection of reproductive organs; and any other necessary tests. You are encouraged to relate any pertinent information to the examining physician and ask questions. When a PAP smear is returned and the lab report indicates "dysplasia" is present, a diagnostic procedure known as Colposcopy is recommended. Because most invasive cancer starts with early changes and progresses through various stages, these dysplastic cells need to be eradicated. The Colposcope allows the doctor to look at the cervix with a specially designed microscope. The abnormal cells are identified and small biopsies are taken. in most cases, after determining the precise state of the disease, the problem area can be treated right in the Clinic by either freezing or further biopsy. In addition to these tests, the Crist Clinic offers Venereal Disease control and gynecological surgery. The Crist Clinic screens for and treats venereal disease (V.D.) and related ailments. Early detection and prompt treatment can help deter further complications.
